“So that, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not without fruit in the Lord.” (1. Corinthians 15:58)
Take a minute and think through your last days and your last week. What has been on your mind, and what have you been doing? Paul is telling us to abound in the work of the Lord in the Bible verse above. Are we abounding in the work of the Lord, or are we abounding totally in the work of men? There is nothing wrong in working hard to earn money, and there is nothing wrong in using time at reaching your goals. But, this most never take the place of our final goal and vision, which is to abound in the work of the Lord. Our eyes and our thoughts most be set on Jesus, and then we can know that whatever work we do for Him, will not be in vain.
Paul writes that we most be steadfast and immovable. It is so easy to lose focus on what’s important. Often I wake up in the morning ready to read my Bible, but then I see something else that needs to be done (cleaning, newspaper, email etc…), and as I start doing these things I totally forget about my original intention to read the Bible. It is easy to lose focus, and therefore Paul is giving us a wake-up call: “Be steadfast, be immovable… let nothing take away your focus from Jesus!”
I guess he is not only shouting to you, but to me as well!
