Once again, I saw a product on TEMU and couldn’t resist the temptation. It looked very cool, practical, and it would open a new world of opportunities to me in the kitchen. Considering that it was less than €2, it was too cheap to leave out from my shopping bag. But, was it worth it? Is it as good as it looks? Does it work as well as the pictures and videos show on TEMU?
As the product was unpacked, it looked exactly like I imagined based on the pictures at TEMU. I ordered the orange one as that was the cheapest.
I decided to quickly make a dough and to give it a try. Of course, I didn’t have an exact dumpling recipe, so I googled here and there and ended up making a quite standard dough with flour, water, and salt. The dough became surprisingly nice, stretchy, and not at all sticky. So, then I divided it into smaller parts and decided to squeeze the small pieces flat one by one to a nice round ball like I saw on the TEMU videos.
Well, I wasn’t too excited about this. To make the dough flat you must squeeze it quite hard, and when you squeeze it, the dough gets stuck to the top of the squeezer (even though the dough wasn’t sticky at all). In other words, by the time I managed to remove it from the top of the squeezer, it no longer looked like a flat and round pancake (like in the video).
Too solve the problem, I took the entire dough and used a rolling pin to make a big flat dough on my table. Then I found a cup with the size of the dumpling maker and used it to create dough circles. These I later placed in the dumpling maker, filled it with all sorts of snacks, and then used the 2-in-1 dumpling maker again to close the dumpling. This part actually worked well and my son who helped me in the process really enjoyed both the filling and the closing of the dumplings.
In the end I heated up oil in a pan and added my dumplings to the oil. Even though spring rolls are normally made differently with a different kind of dough, this actually worked quite well and we liked the taste of both the dough and the stuffing!
What is the conclusion? Is the 2-in-1 Dumpling Maker from TEMU worth buying?
Based on the fact that I didn’t find the “pancake maker” useful, I now have a big device to store in my small kitchen, instead of having only one smaller that I can use to fill and close the dumplings. Honestly, I will not throw it away because I like to use the part for closing my dumplings, but it is unnecessarily large considering that I only use one of the two functions.
If I were you, I’d rather look for a 1-in-1 dumpling maker, in other words, a dumpling maker that is all about being useful for stuffing and closing the dumplings, and not about creating a perfectly shaped circle dumpling (because it didn’t work well for me, at least).
